The College of Education, Department of Educational Theory and Practice at Montana State University Billings seeks a qualified candidate to teach undergraduate and graduate (Master’s level) Special Education courses, advise both graduate and undergraduate students, provide service at multiple levels, and carry out a successful research agenda. Candidates must hold a doctorate (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) in Special Education or a doctorate in a related field with a Master's degree in Special Education. Candidates that are ABD will be considered, but if hired for the position they will have 18 months, beginning with the first day of their contract, to provide confirmation that their degree has been conferred. We seek a candidate who shares our commitment to serving diverse student populations, inclusive education, effective practices in teaching (including integration of appropriate technology), and culturally sustaining/revitalizing pedagogy. A successful candidate can teach online and face-to-face courses across a variety of special education programs. Candidates should also offer evidence of their research agenda and the capacity to engage with colleagues in collaborative work.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A PhD, EdD, or ABD in Special Education or PhD, EdD, or ABD, i a related field, with a Master's degree in special education.
- Knowledge and experience in teaching students with exceptionalities.
- A minimum of three years P-12 public school teaching
- Knowledge of Common Core Standards
- Potential for excellence in university teaching
- The capacity to engage with colleagues in collaborative work
- Experience or interest in online teaching
- Record of scholarly activity
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge and experience in teaching assessment and/or teaching students with intellectual disabilities
- Evidence of exemplary teaching at the university level in online and face to face formats.
- Evidence of an understanding of course and program design principles.
- Experience working with a diverse range of adult and young adult learners.
- Demonstrated excellence in supervisory work with teacher candidates.
Responding to a plea from Montana citizens for an institution of higher education in central or eastern Montana, Eastern Montana State Normal School, was established March 12, 1927. Now, Montana State University Billings’ College of Education is recognized as the regional leader in the preparation of Literacy Specialists and Special Education teachers. The Educator Preparation Program at Montana State University Billings is accredited by the Montana State Board of Public Education and the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) for the preparation of elementary and secondary teachers through the Bachelor’s degree and school counseling Master’s degree. The College of Education also offers Masters degrees in Reading, Special Education Generalist, Special Education Applied Behavior Analysis, Curriculum and Instruction/Initial Licensure, and Interdisciplinary Studies.
