KEMC provides in-depth news, public affairs, and cultural programming to a general adult audience in Montana and northern Wyoming—more specifically, news which focuses on meaning and detail; public affairs which offers complete expression of ideas and the opportunity for listener discussion; and cultural programming expressing heritage and innovation in the arts and humanities. Working under the supervision of KEMC’s General Manager and Chief Engineer, the Broadcast Operations Specialist coordinates the aggregation, processing, and integration of broadcast programming from various national and regional programming sources.
 

 

  •  assists in the regular operation and maintenance of KEMC’s broadcast automation software
  • provides technical support to other control room operators on the operation of automation software
  •  provides content updates to and general maintenance on the station website, and assists in
implementing KEMC’s social media strategy;
  • assists in the maintenance of KEMC’s broadcast information technology network;
  • provides initial IT assistance to station staff, acts as a liaison to IT for further assistance
  •  Other duties as assigned, may include, but not limited to: control room operator duties (fill-in due to illness, vacations); station fundraising or other public station activities
Qualities:
 
  •  facility with computer network infrastructure (linking disparate computers and software systems)
  • proficiency with radio automation software
  •  ability to describe complex actions in an understandable manner
  •  facility with website editing/design software
  • troubleshooting and communication skills
  •  knowledge of computer hardware and operating systems
  •  ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously
  •  ability to work autonomously, without direct supervision
  •  understanding of public radio broadcasting practices
  •  ask for help from station staff when confronted with unfamiliar station duties/tasks
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  •  Facility with computer network infrastructure (linking disparate computers and software
             systems)
  •  Ability to describe complex actions in an understandable manner
  •  Facility with website editing/design software
  •  Troubleshooting and communication skills
  •  Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously
  •  Ability to work autonomously, without direct supervision
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Proficiency with radio automation software Understanding of public radio broadcasting practices
  • Prior experience in public media
  •  On-Air experience at a radio station
