Responsibilities of the position include teaching undergraduate courses in the Outdoor Adventure Leadership degree which include in-classroom and field-based courses which may involve extended field time, evenings, and weekends. This position also includes teaching undergraduate courses within the Health and Human Performance programs. These programs include Health and Wellness, Human Performance, Health & Physical Education Teacher Licensure, and Health and Human Performance. This faculty member is also expected to develop, maintain, and evaluate ongoing relationships as well as new relationships among the campus degree program and the numerous professionals and businesses upon which the program depends for skill-specific experiences. This faculty member also is expected to recruit, advise and supervise students; provide service to the department, college, university and community; and support and engage in the university’s commitment to outcomes assessment.


ABOUT THE COLLEGE:
The College of Health Professions and Science has a strong interest in being a leader in training the next generation of Health and Science Professionals. Current offerings at MSU-Billings include healthcare related degree programs that span areas from careers with direct patient contact (such as Nursing, Athletic Training, Clinical and Mental Health Counseling, Paramedic, Radiology and Ultrasound Technology) to the Allied Health professions (such as Health Administration, Medical Coding and Billing, and Medical Laboratory Sciences. We also offer degrees in Biology, Chemistry and Health and Human Performance that prepare students to continue their education in Medicine, Pharmacy, Physician Assistant Studies, Dentistry, Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy. Students and Faculty in these programs have opportunities to collaborate, conduct joint research, expand research, develop additional career pathways, and build meaningful connections within the health services, industry, and biotech sectors to meet our community and regional needs. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• A Master’s degree in a field related to Outdoor Adventure Leadership
• Professional certification(s) specific to Outdoor Adventure Leadership and Education, including a
current Wilderness First Responder (WFR).
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching
• Demonstrated evidence of effective supervision of student experiential learning and professional
development
• Knowledge and proficiency of outdoor skills such as backpacking, rock climbing, challenge course
facilitation, rafting/kayaking, and general backcountry travel.
• Demonstrated success in the logistics involved in outdoor/adventure learning i.e., equipment
purchases and maintenance, contracts with providers
• Demonstrated evidence of building and maintaining effective collegial relationships and
partnerships with off-campus constituencies involved in outdoor/adventure education 


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Doctoral degree related to Outdoor Adventure Leadership
• Record of scholarly activity
• Demonstrated success integrating outdoor adventure degree program with related degree
programs in exercise science, education, and related fields of study
• Certifications in relevant technical skill area

Salary is commensurate with education and experience and subject to the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) Montana State University-Billings Faculty Association.
