Credit Analyst at Big Sky Economic Development

Big Sky Economic Development (BSED) is seeking a Credit Analyst I to join our Big Sky Finance team. This position supports our loan programs by performing financial and credit analysis, assembling complete loan packages, and ensuring compliance with SBA and other lending requirements.


Credit Analysts play a critical role in helping Montana businesses access the capital they need to start, expand, and succeed.


In this job, you would be responsible for:

Credit Analysis & Loan Processing

  • Reviewing and analyzing business and personal financial statements and tax returns, with written credit narratives
  • Performing collateral analysis, including appraisal and environmental report reviews
  • Preparing complete, accurate loan application packages for submission to SBA
  • Assisting Loan Officers with credit reports, UCC lien searches, flood certifications, and insurance/property tax tracking
  • Setting up and maintaining complete loan files in the loan management system
  • Monitoring construction draws and assisting with new construction loan administration
  • Completing annual reviews of the existing loan portfolio and tracking required financial updates


Loan Closing & Servicing Support

  • Assisting with preparation and review of loan closing documents prior to title company closings
  • Supporting complex servicing actions such as payoffs, collateral releases, subordinations, deferments, and guarantor releases
  • Creating and maintaining accurate loan servicing files and documentation
  • Assisting with audits, loan reviews, and special projects as assigned by the Finance Director

Collaboration & Compliance

  • Working closely with Loan Officers, third-party lenders, and borrowers to gather and review required documentation
  • Staying current on federal, state, and SBA lending regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Supporting Big Sky Finance’s relationship-driven culture through professional service and communication

 

You’re a good fit for this job if you have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 1–3 years of experience in credit analysis, underwriting, or commercial lending (preferred)
  • Familiarity with SBA 504 and/or 7(a) loan programs (preferred)
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret financial data and make recommendations
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and analysis
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including intermediate Excel skills
  • Comfort learning and using loan management and tracking systems

 

A combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work will be considered.

 

Other info you should know:

  • This position reports to the Business Finance Director
  • Standard office hours are generally 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with occasional early morning, evening, or weekend work
  • Work is based in Billings, Montana, with occasional travel for meetings and trainings
  • The role includes work in an office environment and periodic work at client or partner sites
