Montana State University Billings is a comprehensive public four-year higher education institution located in Montana’s largest population center, whose faculty is actively engaged in teaching, research, creative endeavors and public service. MSU Billings is unique in that it is one of a select few higher education institutions that also boasts an embedded two-year community college.

The University opened in 1927 and was initially called Eastern Montana State Normal School at Billings and was established to prepare teachers for elementary schools in eastern Montana. MSU Billings has grown, with the city of Billings and Yellowstone County, into the major urban comprehensive higher education center of south central and eastern Montana. The University campus consists of four colleges: the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Business, the College of Education and the College of Allied Health Professions. Seven miles west of the University campus sits City College at MSU Billings, which serves the comprehensive two-year mission of the university. 


The Clinical Resource Registered Nurse is a Registered Nurse responsible for the educational interventions and in the instruction of learning within the clinical settings and community used for clinical education of nursing students.

This position is responsible for:

• Instructing student nurses in the theoretical and clinical aspects of the practice of nursing
• Instructing students and facilitating discussions about accepted methods of nursing practice including professional aspects of nursing, theories of physiology and psychodynamics, assessment of functional health patterns, nursing interventions, medical, surgical, and allied health treatments (such as observing and recording symptoms and applying principles of asepsis and antisepsis, etc.)
• Interacting and collaborating with nursing service personnel to enhance learning experience in nursing unit or community; assigning students to patients and observing performance in actual nursing situations
• Administering and grading clinical paperwork to determine student performance and achievement; maintaining necessary records to document student progress
• Assisting students through observational and participative experiences to apply nursing theory, the nursing process, and nursing techniques in clinical settings
• Counseling students on education and related problems; facilitating problem solving processes; offering advice and assistance as deemed necessary
• Making recommendations to the Director of Nursing and faculty in developing curriculum content and improved teaching and nursing techniques
• Discussing instructional or related matters with the Director of Nursing and supervising faculty; striving continuously to improve the quality of student instruction
• Attending professional workshops, conferences, and other educational meetings to promote growth, broaden the knowledge and skills of the faculty, and to improve the quality of nursing education
• Assisting in the preparation of reports required by national and state accrediting agencies
• Participating in the quality improvement activities both in the school and in the clinical facility
• Performing related work as required 


Required Qualifications:

• Current unencumbered license as a registered nursing the state of Montana
• Two calendar years of full-time employment or the equivalent in clinical nursing practice as a registered nurse prior to employment of MSU Billings City College Nursing Program
• Ability to coordinate educational experience with nursing staff personnel
• Ability to express ideas effectively in oral and written form
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
• Knowledge of health care agencies/hospitals organization and functions of departments, policies, regulations, and procedures
• Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of the professional nursing education program and the quality of instruction, along with the ability to recommend and institute changes to improve the overall quality of nursing education at MSU Billings’ City College Nursing Program 


Preferred Qualifications:

• BSN or MSN
