Duties and Responsibilities: The Assistant Professor of History will be responsible for teaching a variety of courses in Modern US History, the American West (including the History of Montana), Environmental History, and US History Surveys. This position will initiate and maintain a program of research and scholarly development consistent with the incumbent’s area of expertise, departmental guidelines, and Collective Bargaining Agreement requirements for tenure and promotion. In addition, responsibilities for this position include student advisement, department and campus committee participation, and development/delivery of appropriate online courses. The candidate is expected to share the University’s commitment to outcomes assessment, strategic initiatives, and community engagement.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Ph.D. or evidence of advanced ABD
  • Experience in, or strong commitment to, developing and teaching General Education surveycourses in the Department of History
  • Experience in, or strong commitment to, developing and teaching courses in Modern US History, the American West (including the History of Montana), and Environmental History
  • Ability and willingness to develop and teach sections/courses online
  • Evidence of, or strong commitment to, original research and publication
  • Shares the University’s commitment to outcomes assessment, strategic initiative, and community engagement
