About the ART Department: Art students at MSUB explore their research interests through developing visual language and critical thinking skills. With small class sizes and easy access to studios, students emerge as professionals boasting solo exhibitions and ready to enter creative fields or seek higher degrees. Located in the urban center of Montana, our students grow their professional experience and artistic practice in an engaged learning environment. We aim to develop each artist as an individual in small group settings by integrating critical thinking, advanced technology, and creative space. The Department of Art is housed in three campus locations. The Liberal Arts Building houses the Northcutt Steele Gallery, the Project Gallery and a majority of studios. The Art Education facilities are located in the College of Education Building. The ceramic and sculpture studios are in the Art Annex located on Poly Drive. About the Position:
The MSU Billings Art Department invites application for a tenure-track position in art history at the rank of Assistant Professor. The preferred candidate will have the qualifications to teach all levels of courses in art history for art majors, art education majors, non-majors (general education credit), and the BFA program. They will be expected to teach contemporary art and related art theory, and perform discipline related and university service activities. We seek candidates with wide interest in the histories, theories, and methodologies of art history and
who value inter- and cross-disciplinary thinking.
This position includes student advising, recruitment, departmental and campus committee participation as well as delivery of both face to face and online courses. The successful candidate will be expected to initiate and maintain a program of research and scholarly development consistent with their area of expertise and CBA requirements for tenure and promotion. They will also serve as a model of professionalism and act as a resource for students within the teaching-learning environment. Relocation to Billings, Montana is required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. PHD in Art History or related area
2. Ability to teach Contemporary Art
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with students, faculty, administration and
community members
2. Active publication record
3. A demonstrated engagement with critical and theoretical issues in Contemporary Art
4. Minimum two years college-level teaching experience
