Billings Chamber Women's Network
This November, the Billings Chamber Women’s Network invites you to a powerful and eye-opening morning at the Western Heritage Center. Explore the original exhibition, Equally Different: Uncovering the History of Disability, and engage in a behind-the-scenes conversation with Lauren Hunley, community historian and project director.
Lauren will share the process behind curating this impactful exhibit, highlighting Montana’s complex and often untold history of institutionalization, resilience, and the early local efforts that positioned Billings as a national leader in disability integration and advocacy.
You’ll hear the incredible true story of Gina Kelly, a Montana woman who was falsely imprisoned at Warm Springs Hospital and ultimately became a force for justice in the disability rights movement. Her traumatic yet triumphant journey is one of many featured in this remarkable exhibition.
Why You Should Attend:
-
Gain insight into how disability history is a civil and human rights issue
-
Learn how local programs led national progress before federal laws were enacted
-
Be inspired by the voices of those who have shaped, and continue to shape, disability rights in Montana
Join us as we learn, reflect, and grow together as a network of women committed to understanding and impact.
